ABOUT DRLC

Founded in 1975, Disability Rights Legal Center (DRLC) is a 501C-3 non-profit, public interest advocacy organization that champions the civil rights of people with disabilities as well as those affected by cancer and other serious illnesses. DRLC is a leader in bringing cutting-edge cases to court and in winning victories to protect and to expand the rights of people to help eliminate discrimination and other legal barriers.

Our Programs

Disability Rights Advocacy

Disability Rights Advocacy

Disability Rights Advocacy Center (DRAC),  DRLC’s oldest program, provides free legal assistance to people with disabilities experiencing discrimination in violation of their civil rights. The program brings high impact, high visibility cases in state and federal courts to protect and to expand the rights of this community. These cutting-edge cases raise public awareness and ensure people with disabilities are able to participate fully in society throughout their life span. DRLC’s Advocacy program also works to remove barriers to full participation by people with disabilities in schools, healthcare facilities, custodial settings and public spaces.

Cancer Legal Resource Center

Cancer Legal Resource Center

Cancer Legal Resource Center (CLRC) provides information through its national telephone assistance line, outreach programs and community activities to educate and support cancer patients, their families, healthcare professionals and advocates on matters like maintaining employment through treatment, accessing healthcare and government benefits, taking medical leave and estate planning. For a person with a cancer diagnosis, these issues often result in worry and confusion, which can be overwhelming. When information is readily accessible, quality outcomes for patient survivorship improve as stress and anxiety decrease.

End of Life Liberty Project

End of Life Liberty Project

End of Life Liberty Project (ELLP), Disability Rights Legal Center’s (DRLC) newest program, is at the forefront of a national movement to protect and to expand the rights of mentally competent, terminally ill patients at the end of life.  These include the right to receive appropriate supportive and palliative care, and the right to effective and aggressive pain and symptom management. End of Life Liberty Project brings cutting-edge cases throughout the United States to establish the right of the individual to choose a peaceful death through aid-in-dying.  It is the leading advocacy organization using litigation as a tool to expand end-of-life liberty.
